Volunteer Lead

The Arkansas Foodbank is the state’s largest non-governmental provider of emergency food aid. We assist people in 33 counties across central and southern Arkansas.  The Arkansas Foodbank operates as a distribution hub for over 450 partner agencies in 33 counties in central and south Arkansas. These agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, youth programs, senior centers, schools and emergency shelters. Foodbank member agencies service approximately 62,119 meals a day—touching the lives of 280,000 individuals every year.

We are currently seeking a Volunteer Lead who is responsible for supporting the operation of volunteer activities conducted in the Volunteer Operations Center and for ensuring the delivery of a fulfilling, mission based experience for volunteers. They will work closely with the Volunteer Engagement team to exemplify the Foodbank’s values in successful project completion in the Volunteer Operation Center. They will oversee necessary inventory and the movement of product. They will supervise volunteers as needed to complete projects along with the Volunteer Engagement team. Employee will work a minimum of 12 and no more than 20 hours per quarter at specified volunteer events

Position Summary:

The Volunteer Lead will report to the Volunteer Engagement Director and have the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and direct volunteers at Saturday Workday and Family Night events; additional event dates may be added as needed. 
  • Ensure that all work meets USDA standards when conducting applicable projects.
  • Support project completion activity in meeting production requirements and maintain accurate documentation as required.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Engagement team to coordinate, schedule, prepare, and organize repackaging activities and all other volunteer projects.
  • Setup supplies and materials needed to complete each scheduled volunteer project along with the Volunteer Engagement team. Maintain accurate inventory of supplies and materials necessary to conduct scheduled projects.
  • Maintain the movement of product between the volunteer operations center and the main warehouse.
  • Weigh and re-tag all processed food adhering to warehouse inventory control processes and procedures to maintain accuracy of inventory.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure that all of the volunteer work areas are kept clean during the day and at the end of the work shifts. This also includes equipment and garbage removal.
  • Enforce policies and procedures with volunteers to ensure that all standard safety and food safety requirements are met for proper food handling.
  • Safely operate power equipment.
  • Give volunteers Foodbank orientation and project instructions prior to shift start.
  • Build a positive rapport with volunteers to ensure that they enjoy the experience

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • At least one year experience in Volunteer Management or related experience. 
  • Experience in warehousing and materials management a plus.
  • Basic knowledge or Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel and Access.
  • Must be able to obtain power industrial certification. This training will be administered by the Arkansas Foodbank.
  • Current, valid Arkansas driver’s licenses and proof of insurance.

  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Must be able to effectively multi-task, work under deadlines, and have strong leadership skills. 
  • Ability to work irregular hours including nights and weekends as required.
  • Self-motivated, strong problem solver with excellent time management skills 
  • Ability to relate across departments with staff at all levels in a fast paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift/move approximately 60 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently as needed
