Finance Director

The Arkansas Foodbank is the state’s largest non-governmental provider of emergency food aid. We assist people in 33 counties across central and southern Arkansas.  The Arkansas Foodbank operates as a distribution hub for over 450 partner agencies in 33 counties in central and south Arkansas. These agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, youth programs, senior centers, schools and emergency shelters. Foodbank member agencies service approximately 62,119 meals a day—touching the lives of 280,000 individuals every year.

We are currently seeking a Finance Director who supports the Chief Financial Officer with the financial management of the Arkansas Foodbank.  This position oversees financial operations and continuous improvement of processes for financial management activities including general ledger entry and reconciliation, budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants management, analysis, and reporting as well as internal controls design, implementation, and oversight. 

Position Summary:

The Finance Director will report to the Chief Financial Officer and have the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and support to the Finance Department in execution of all processing and reporting responsibilities. 
  • Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to establish and maintain proper internal controls over company assets and financial transactions.
  • Oversee completion of all banking, investment and account reconciliations. 
  • Act as administrator for payroll, retirement plan and company credit cards.
  • Serve as backup for payroll and accounts payable processing.
  • Engage in accurate and timely preparation of monthly and yearly financial reports.
  • Support the grant and restricted fund activities of the Foodbank through preparation of reports and budgets as needed. 
  • Participate with the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of the annual budget for the Foodbank entire and by department and program.
  • Participate with the Chief Financial Officer in the annual audit for the Foodbank carried out by external auditors.
  • Prepare and update Network Activity Report (NAR) information pertinent to financial information for Feeding America.
  • Develop and manage the Finance departmental budget in coordination with the CFO. 
  • Develop and track metrics surrounding finance functions. 
  • Effectively manage personnel issues such as the recruitment, training, and discipline of staff.
    • Develop team to solve day-to-day operational issues and reach short- and long-term performance goals.
    • Empower direct reports to make their own decisions.
    • Establish clear performance and behavioral expectations for all employees

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting from an accredited university.  MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum four (4) years of related work experience with at least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with non-profit organizations preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer operations including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics: 

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles.  Including but not limited to:  general bookkeeping, GAAP, IRS & DOL finance related regulations & required 990 filing obligations.
  • Very strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the ability to maintain confidentiality of financial, payroll, tax, and related information.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external partners.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and administration.
  • Ability to make sound independent decisions and take initiative.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, oral and written format.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Current, valid Arkansas driver’s license and proof of insurance.
